Almedalen June 27th - July 1

Competitiveness - Swedish Infrastructure Investments in a European Perspective

Subject: Infrastructure/Transportation, International Issues
Organizers: JBS (Railway Industry Collaboration Forum), Swedtrain, Train & Rail

Time: 09:00-11:00
Location: Donnersgatan 6, "Samhällsbyggararenan" (Community Builder Arena)

Description of the societal issue:
How can we accelerate infrastructure investments in Sweden? What financing options are available? How can we improve capacity, travel time, and reliability in corridors to and from Europe for freight and passenger trains? How can we effectively collaborate to meet the needs of the basic industry?

Additional event information:
Swedtrain and Järnvägsbranschens Samverkansforum (JBS) are organizing an open seminar on Swedish infrastructure investments from a European perspective. The starting point is the growing need for an efficient and future-proof transport system that supports Sweden's import and export in the best possible way, especially considering the green transition. It is beyond doubt that Sweden needs all available means to build new infrastructure while investing record amounts in maintaining existing facilities. However, Sweden has recently actively declined multi-billion amounts from the EU that could provide us with more freight by rail, more night trains to Europe, and a modernized railway infrastructure for stronger regions and more reliable commuting. The seminar will discuss how Sweden can scale up, find new inspiration, and explore new avenues together with the EU.
